Welcome to Year 1 at

Burman Infant School!

In Year 1 you’ll find yourselves at the beginning of the Key Stage One journey, transitioning from Reception into exciting whole class lessons, learning together in discrete subjects. We follow a whole class mastery approach in our Maths learning and carefully select high quality and engaging stories to support our English curriculum.

Children learn in a variety of ways including group work, partner work and individually to engage every type of learner.

We have three very exciting terms in Year 1 with our Creative Curriculum following a theme. Over the course of the year we carry out many engaging activities ranging from treasure hunts to science investigations to visits to local sites to explore the past.

We love to invite visitors into school to share their experiences and memories which inspire our learning and we are always open to hear from parents/carers.
