Attendance
At Burman Infant School, we expect all children on roll to attend every day, when the school is in session and as long as they are fit and healthy enough to do so.
Our overarching aim is to achieve the best possible attendance, consistently, which will positively impact our children and their learning but we need the support of all parents/carers to achieve this.
We do all we can to encourage the children to attend, and to put in place appropriate procedures. We believe the most important factor in promoting good attendance and punctuality is a development of positive attitudes towards school. To this end, we strive to make our school a happy and rewarding experience for all children. We will also make the best provision we can for those children who, for whatever reason, are prevented from coming to school.
Parents of registered children have a legal duty under the Education Act 1996 (section 444) to make sure that children of compulsory school age attend school on a regular and full time basis. Permitting unauthorised absence from school is an offence and parents may be reported to the local authority if problems cannot be resolved by agreement.
The Department for Education have also published ‘Working Together to Improve School Attendance’ (applied from September 2024).
